User Requirements Definition

User Requirements definition is the process of discovering, analyzing and validating business requirements. It is a necessary step in the delivery of successful systems and software projects. The discipline is also required by standards, regulations, and quality improvement initiatives such as IEEE® and CMMI®.

Creating and managing requirements remains a challenge for IT, systems, and product development projects or indeed for any activity where you have to manage a contractual relationship.

The impact of a poorly expressed requirement can be devastating; it can have a domino effect that leads to time-consuming rework, inadequate deliveries, and exceeded budgets. Even worse, a poor requirement can bring a business out of compliance or even cause injury or death.

Business goals – the input to the requirements definition process - explains why the system will be developed and how it will contribute to overall business objectives of customers and users. Requirements are documented in a Statement of User Requirements (SOUR) – the output of the Requirements Definition process. All requirements are specified from a users’ point of view and they should only specify the external behaviour and properties of the new system – preferably in clear business or users’ language.

EOH Consulting assists clients to effectively define and manage requirements to ensure alignment with the needs of the organisation, while proving compliance and staying on schedule and within budget.
